As a part of the Konfidence Foundation School Revitalization Project, the foundation will take a school in an underdeveloped area and bring it up to standard operating level. If there is no water on the property, the Konfidence Foundation will drill a well. If there is no roof on the building or the classrooms are uninhabitable, the foundation will come in and build a structure that will not only house the students, but be something that they can be proud to attend.
The foundation began its revitalization projects in 2007 at the Ecole Elementaire P.A.Y Unite #3 in Dakar, Senegal West Africa. There, the foundation took a substandard facility and reconstructed it into a working school equipped with new windows, a new well that was dug specifically for the school's use, desks and chairs, new books, and new classrooms.
Working with the community to rebuild the school, Akon returned home to unveil the new school and distributed over 1,000 textbooks to the teachers and their students.
The Konfidence Foundation will continue the restoration work spearheaded by Akon and is developing an initiative to identify and fund the repair of schools throughout Senegal to return them to full functionality and upgrade the facilities to modern standards.
