Konfidence Schools

Akon's vision of the Konfidence School is a safe place where young children can learn and develop the confidence needed to create a better future for Africa. Beginning the vision with one school, Akon funded the reconstruction of Ecole Elementaire P.A.Y. Unite 3, an elementary school in Dakar, where the facilities were meager and the structure unsafe. Working with the community to rebuild the school, Akon returned home to unveil the new school and distributed over 1,000 textbooks to the teachers and their students.

The Konfidence Foundation will continue the restoration work spearheaded by Akon and is developing an initiative to identify and fund the repair of schools throughout Senegal to return them to full functionality and upgrade the facilities to modern standards.

Konfidence Community Development

In addition to the commitment of rebuilding local schools, the Konfidence Foundation will focus efforts on repairing neglected Qur'an education and community centers across Senegal. By providing safe structures, water facilities and new, updated education materials and desks, members

of the Senegalese community will be able to study their faith and explore their spirituality within safe havens.

In 2007, Akon and his family worked with community leaders in Lac Rose, Senegal to successfully rebuild the Centre Islamique, a local school, which had a crumbling foundation and a thatched roof. Through his own personal funds, Akon also built a working well on site so that in addition to having clean drinking water, those visiting the Centre could wash beforehand, according to Islamic practice. Through the efforts of Akon and his family, the modern Centre Islamique is now able to educate a variety of students, ranging from small children learning the basis of their faith to adults seeking additional spirituality studies, within a sanitary and sound environment.

Konfidence Athletic Teams

Soccer has long been a popular and iconic sport to Senegalese citizens. The Konfidence Foundation plans to continue fostering the love of soccer in the youth of Senegal by providing the opportunity for participation within organized soccer leagues. Konfidence Foundation is working to implement a program, which would provide funding for uniforms, equipment, coaches and league administration. The Konfidence Foundation hopes that children involved with the league will develop additional physical ability and self-esteem.

Konfidence Mobile Clinics

In an effort to improve the health outcome and quality of life, as well as reduce the child mortality rate and specific health conditions prevalent in the country of Senegal such as malaria, the Konfidence Foundation is working to fund, develop and implement Konfidence Mobile Clinics. The clinics, which are expected to provide access to quality healthcare within individual communities on a continuing basis, will conduct regular health screenings and provide education focused on disease prevention. The Konfidence Foundation also plans to partner with various not-for-profit medical groups to maximize the efficiency and reach of the Foundation run clinics.

As Akon says,

“Our time is now… there is massive sea of change in the way this continent is perceived and confidence in our future is so important… over 40% of the population are under 14… It is this generation whose empowerment will get our country back on track. They are the key to all our futures”.
